Soul
	The concept of the "soul" as the immortal part of every human is one of the most pernicious of all beliefs. The consequences of this belief have led to wars, cruelty and misery. The concept that a soul is somehow acquired before birth as well as the concept of the equality of each immortal soul are the source of struggles incomprehensible when one realizes it is all about something which will probably turn out to be only an arrangement of cells, neurotransmitters and receptors. There are acrimonious arguments about when the fetus or indeed the egg or sperm acquire a soul. It would all be ridiculous if the consequences were not so disastrous for humanity, and the earth.
